Default No game keeps you entertained for long.

Any action that is repetitive becomes "boring" eating/sleeping are exceptions (not boring, because it is instinct).

You cannot play anything for longer than a year without breaks unless there is updates that provide actual content. I think that is why people quit things like Diablo or Starcraft. Starcraft is held up by the amount of strategy, not content though.

Just my thoguhts.

This is why people get hooked on MMOs. Continuous content, a virtually unending game. So, technically, the topic title is untrue. As long as the clients keep getting their syringe-full of update material every so often, they'll continue playing

AO had me hooked the same way these forums have me hooked - people. They make the game interesting.

I've been playing DoD (Day of Defeat, the WWII half-life mod) for many many years now. Still not tired of it, but it's not because of the game. The game I have gotten tired of, I still play because we've got a server with the greatest bunch of people I've ever seen.

WOOHOO! DoD is such a great game! I'm glad to see another person who likes it. I have played the half-life series for about 4 years (half-life, team fortress classic, DoD, counter-stirke, and more), and I think that they have done a great job. But with regards to the OP, I definelty agree. I have to take breaks between games, and I rarely play one for over 6 months (exception being evercrack... err everquest).

Someone told me once that there is a game that guys play that keeps them entertained for moments on end, and it's a solitare like game; but they play the game in 5-6 minute sessions every few hours. I also heard girls are infinitely better at it than guys: they can play in 1-3 hour sessions every 6-8 hours.

I guess we can all just entertain ourselves.

TFC was good times. Probably the most fun I had with an online shooter until UT2k4. The "realism" of CS never caught on for me. I kinda like how in TFC or UT a guy can take a rocket to the chest and keep on fighting.

I miss TFC like crazy.. I was either a engineer or a spy, sometimes a demolition man. I loved the stragey behind the sentry guns, and how the engineers always worked together. I also LOVED the sound of 4 sentry guns going off at once. I had quite a lot of fun as a spy too, it was awesome to mimic the behavior of the people untill last second and then SLICE.

My computer is dated so I played Soldier of Fortune 2 multiplayer untill then, I actually really liked the multiplayer even though i completely forget the storyline of the singleplayer.. It reminded me of CS and i loved the weapons, and i could MAP

I'm actually in the process of undating my computer so i should be in the game again soon Hopefully

Depends whats your definition of "long" though.
Guild Wars was waaaay worth the money as my /age is about 600 hours.
And it cost me AU$70.
Thats slightly over AU$1 per hour.

I guess the game that I was hooked on was DotA (a custom Warcraft 3 map).
Spent 8 months playing that damn game which, interestingly, is free.

Do you mean the series or just one particular one?
My favourite was FFX hands down.
Spent 120 hours on that game and did everything, short of killing Penance.
That dude pissed me off big time!!
Fought him for like an hour and a half to see him blow up...I was so happy, and then he came with another form and wiped me out cos I made a mistake.
Never bothered to try again.

I -still- play Diablo 2...and even Diablo on occasion. When D2 first came out, I played some unholy number of hours and it took about 2 years to wear off. The gameplay was stale, sure. But the allure of finding great equipment, the expansion, starting new chars to get on the ladder and, most importantly, my guild (which still games together at least once a month) made it all worthwhile.

Diablo was my first online game. I played it for a few months and moved on to half life and all the various mods (mostly dod, team fortress, counterstrike) and UT2004 sometimes. Just before switching to Guild Wars I played Diablo 2 for about 2 years (still have that account, don't have the heart to let it go even though I dont play). I'm pretty much burned out on Guild Wars content, but I still play a little every day or so and eagerly wait for the next chapter. I need a new fix! I seriously think I post here more than I play the game now.
